Perfluoroalkoxy (PFA) is a semi-crystalline, fully fluorinated, melt-processable fluoropolymer. It is a modified polymer of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) by introducing an F3CO- group to the PTFE frame structure. Performance Characteristics

The main performance characteristics of PFA are as follows:

  • PFA shows comparable mechanical properties as fluorinated ethylene propylene (FEP) below 200 °C, and performs comparable mechanical properties as PTFE above 200 °C.
  • The thermal stability of PFA is almost the same as that of PTFE and better than that of FEP.
  • Compared with PTFE, PFA film has better transparency.
  • Since PFA is perfluorinated like FEP, it retains high chemical resistance, low surface energy and good electrical insulation properties.
  • PFA is unaffected by prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, wind, rain and exhaust gases.
