Water Repellents

Introduction

Water Repellents

Water repellents can significantly improve the waterproofing performance of substrates and are an important measure to protect various substrates. They can keep substrates beautiful, extend their service life and improve their safety, and are of great significance in fields such as construction, electronic equipment and automobile manufacturing. Among them, the fluorine-containing water repellents can impart functions such as water repellency, oil repellency and antifouling to the surface of the substrates without changing the original touch, air permeability and moisture permeability of the substrates, and they have outstanding waterproof advantages. Organic fluorides are important raw materials for preparing fluorine-containing water repellents. They have high thermal stability and chemical stability, giving the fluorine-containing water repellents excellent performance. Therefore, organic fluorides have been widely used in water repellents.

Advantages Of Water Repellents Prepared From Organic Fluorides

Compared with traditional organosilicon water repellents, fluorine-containing water repellents prepared from organic fluorides have the following advantages.

Advantages Of Water Repellents Prepared From Organic Fluorides

  • First of all, fluorine-containing water repellents have better waterproofing effect, while maintaining a good hand feel, excellent breathability and moisture permeability of the substrates. Besides, fluorine-containing water repellents have the function of oil repellency.
  • Secondly, fluorine-containing water repellents have good stability, good compatibility with other additives and strong process adaptability.
  • Thirdly, fluorine-containing water repellents have outstanding waterproofing effects on chemical fiber and synthetic fibers. And they can be used in various complex environments.

Applications Of Organic Fluorides In Water Repellents

Fluoropolymers produced by copolymerization of organic fluorides are widely used in water repellants. For example, Zhou et al. used organic fluoride dodecafluoroheptyl methacrylate as the fluorine-containing functional monomer, butyl acrylate and butyl methacrylate as soft monomers, and synthesized fluorine-containing water repellent agent PFA3 of polyacrylates with alkyl chain by emulsion copolymerization. The water repellent also has good oil-repellent effect and applied to the finishing of cotton fabrics[1]. In addition, the fluoropolymers produced by the copolymerization of fluorine-containing acrylates have low surface tension, and the water repellents prepared by them account for a large proportion of current water repellents. Fluorourea polymers formed by the copolymerization of fluorinated urethane monomers have excellent hydrophobicity and oleophobicity, and they are also used in water repellents.
