Fluorinated Heterocycles

The synthesis of complex bioactive molecules through fluorinated heterocyclic building blocks is one of the commonly used methods in synthetic chemistry. The presence of fluorine atoms enhances the thermal stability of heterocyclic compounds on the one hand, and on the other hand, it changes the distribution of electron cloud density inside heterocyclic compound molecules, thereby affecting the acidity and alkalinity of the internal structure of heterocyclic compounds and increasing physiological activity. Based on these properties, fluorinated heterocycles are widely used in the synthesis of dye molecules, pesticides, and medicine.

Applications

The chemical modification of fluorine makes the fluorinated heterocycles exhibit special biological activity, and are widely used in dyes, pesticides and medicine.

Dyes.
  • Dyes. Fluorinated heterocycles building blocks, especially fluorinated pyrimidines and fluorinated triazines, are widely used in the synthesis of reactive dye molecules. They have high reactivity and can improve the color fastness of dyes.
Pesticides.
  • Pesticides. As important raw materials or intermediates of fluorine-containing pesticides, fluorinated heterocycles have achieved rapid development. They are mainly used in the synthesis of herbicides and insecticides, and a few are used in the synthesis of agricultural fungicides. For example, fluorinated heterocycles have been used in the synthesis of the trifluoromethylthiadiazole herbicide thiazafluron, the trifluoromethylpyridine herbicide fluazifop-butyl, the trifluoromethylpyridine insecticide flunicamid, the trifluoromethylpyrrole insecticide tralopyril, the difluoromethylpyrazole fungicide sedaxane, etc.
Medicine.
  • Medicine. Fluorinated heterocycles have good pharmacological and biological activities, and they can be used to synthesize new drug molecules, which can improve drug metabolism and enhance drug stability. At present, a series of anti-cancer, anti-inflammatory, antidepressant, sedative and hypnotic drugs have been synthesized, such as the fluorinated quinoline non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug norfloxacin and the fluorinated pyrimidine anti-tumor drug tegafur.
