Mirazul [1] et al. prepared a new kind of recombinant human collagen-phosphorylcholine hydrogel and evaluated the use of ultrahigh-speed femtosecond lasers developed for ophthalmic surgery to profile recombinant human collagen type III and 2-methacryloyloxyethyl phosphorylcholine (RHCIII–MPC) hydrogel for surgical grafting.

Study showed that these RHCIII–MPC hydrogels could stimulate regeneration while repelling blood vessel intrusion into the implant in a rabbit alkali burn cornea model of severe pathology. RCIII-MPC gel, as a suitable implant material, could be cut with high precision using a femtosecond laser. And it was robust enough to maintain its integrity during laser cutting, which is important for grafting applications that do not require suturing.
