Determination of Moisture in Dye

The scope of application
This type of testing service is applicable to the determination of moisture in various dyes and intermediates, among which the Karl Fischer method and Karl Fischer's modified method are suitable for the determination of trace moisture in dyes and dye intermediates, but not applicable to the determination of moisture in dyes and intermediates The main components of the Karl Fischer reagent react to form water samples and the determination of water in samples that can reduce iodine or oxidize iodide.
Test process and steps
- Take a certain amount of dye sample (usually 2-5 grams) and dry it in a drying oven at 105°C to constant weight.
- Take the sample out, weigh its mass with a dry beaker, and record it as m1.
- Add a certain amount of anhydrous calcium chloride (CaCl2) absorbent (generally twice the mass of the sample) to the sample in the beaker, and seal it for several hours to allow it to absorb the moisture in the sample.
- Change the air in the desiccator to make the desiccant reach equilibrium state, record the mass of the current desiccant, and denote it as m2.
- Reweigh the dried beaker, sample and desiccant and record the mass as m3.
- Moisture content (%) = (m3-m2-m1)/m1×100.
Precautions:
- Calcium chloride absorbent should be pre-dried to constant weight before adding to the sample.
- The evaporating dish and beaker should be baked in a 105°C drying oven to a constant weight state to eliminate the moisture in them.
- During the measurement process, the relative humidity of the experimental environment should be kept below 30%.
