Cobalt carbonate is an inorganic compound, the chemical formula is CoCO3, a pink crystalline powder, almost insoluble in water, alcohol, ethyl ether methyl ester, and ammonia, mainly used as a mineral dressing agent, catalyst, camouflage paint pigments, feed, trace fertilizers, ceramics, and raw materials for the production of cobalt oxide.
Cobalt carbonate is an important precursor to cobalt oxide, cobalt powder, ceramic additives, organic cobalt compounds, and other products, and its purity determines the properties of downstream products. The products prepared by precipitation of sodium carbonate and urea mainly exist in the form of basic carbonate drills, with high impurity content, difficult-to-control morphology, and particle size, which ultimately affect the performance of the products. Here, a method of preparing cobalt carbonate by the liquid phase method is introduced. Using cobalt chloride solution as a cobalt source and ammonium bicarbonate as a precipitant, cobalt carbonate products with uniform particle size distribution, a narrow range, and high phase purity were prepared.
Experimental Materials and Instruments
The cobalt solution used in the experiment is 140-150 g/L cobalt chloride solution, and the concentration of ammonium bicarbonate solution is 250 g/L.
The main instruments are YZ1515X- A peristaltic pump, JHS-1 constant speed digital display agitator, TDGC2-3 voltage regulator, heating plate, 1012 electric blast drying box, MS-2000 particle size distribution meter, AAS9000 atomic absorption spectrometer, KYKY-EM6200 scanning electron microscope, XF-02 loose density meter, and so on.
Experimental Method
Cobalt carbonate was prepared by the liquid phase precipitation method, which mainly includes precipitation, filtration, washing, and drying. By adding an appropriate amount of ammonium bicarbonate solution to the reactor, stirring, heating up to a predetermined temperature, pumping cobalt chloride solution at 0.75 L/h into ammonium bicarbonate solution to precipitate, stopping the reaction at the endpoint pH = 7.0~7.3, aging for 30 min, heating up to 85 oC, holding for 10 min, filtering, washing, and drying, the cobalt carbonate solid can be obtained.
