Nitrogen is a chemical element, and its chemical symbol is N. Nitrogen is the most abundant element in the air, and it exists in the nature in a very wide range. It also plays an important role in living organisms and is one of the basic elements of amino acids. Many industrially important compounds (such as ammonia, nitric acid, organic nitrates that used as propellants or explosives, and cyanides) contain nitrogen atoms.
Alfa Chemistry offers kinds of nitrogen compounds including amine oxides, amine salts, amines, and imidates.
Applications
Amine oxide: Amine oxide is soluble in water and polar organic solvents. It is a weak cationic amphoteric surfactant that is cationic in acidic conditions and non-ionic in alkaline conditions. Amine oxide is mild, and effective in reducing the irritation of anionic surfactants in detergents. Octadecylamine oxide is mainly used in shampoos to make the hair more supple, combable and shiny. It also used in surface cleaners for tableware, bathroom, and building facades. Compared with the traditional thickener 6501, it has the features of high efficiency, good wettability and strong detergency. Dodecyldimethylamine oxide is mainly used for various types of transparent liquid detergent, such as dishwashing detergent, bath scrub and other formulations to improve the compatibility and stability of products.
Amine salts: Amine salts have a strong bactericidal and anti-mildew performance. Quaternary ammonium salt is a commonly used fabric softener, which can soften, smoothen and beautify the surface of fiber. Dioctadecyldimethylammonium bromide is not only a fungicide, but also has a significant softening effect on cotton, wool and synthetic fabrics. Quaternary ammonium salt can also be used as waterproofing agent, mitigating agent, petroleum demulsifier and so on.
Amines: Primary aromatic amines are used as a starting material for the manufacture of azo dyes. It reacts with nitrous acid to form diazonium salt, which can undergo coupling reaction to form an azo compound. Many drugs are designed to mimic or to interfere with the action of natural amine neurotransmitters, exemplified by the amine drugs: Chlorpheniramine is an antihistamine that helps to relieve allergic disorders caused by cold, hay fever, itchy skin, insect bites and stings. Chlorpromazine is a tranquilizer. It is used to relieve anxiety, excitement, restlessness or even mental disorder. Aqueous monoethanolamine (MEA), diisopropanolamine (DIPA) and methyldiethanolamine (MDEA) are widely used industrially for removing carbon dioxide and hydrogen sulfide from natural gas and refinery process streams. They may also be used to remove CO2 from combustion gases and flue gases and may have potential for abatement of greenhouse gases. Related processes are known as sweetening.
Imidates: Imidates are compounds with a carbon-nitrogen double bond and nitrogen atom attached either to a hydrogen atom or an organic group, and the carbon atom having two additional single bonds. Imidates are the important starting materials in organic chemistry for synthesizing amidines, 4(5)-imidazolones, imidazolesn, imidazolines and so on.
