Application
THEIC is mainly used as an important raw material for the production of wire enamels. It is also used as PVC heat stabilizer. Besides, THEIC can also be used in the production of various polyurethane plastics, water-based baking lacquer, unsaturated polyester resins, pesticides, dyes, and pharmaceutical intermediates.

The main applications of THEIC are as follows:
1) Cross-linking agent for insulating varnish for wire enamels
In the course of the processing, the enamelled wires are increasingly stretched, squeezed and wound. In ongoing operation as well, the enamelled wires are subject to vibrations, compressions and temperature loads. The wire enamel applied to the wire must therefore fulfil many requirements at one and the same time.
1,3,5-Tris(2-hydroxyethyl)cyanuric acid (THEIC) is a triol used extensively to improve the performance of polyester-based magnet wire enamels. Electrical insulation made with THEIC polyesters of adipic, phthalic, isophthalic, terephthalic and similar polyacids exhibit good dielectric properties, and show improved adhesion, flexibility, heat shock, and heat aging performance.
2) Stabilizer for PVC
THEIC is an excellent heat stabilizer for PVC.

The plasticized PVC materials were put into a thermal aging oven. The temperature was kept at 185°C. Anti-aging properties were evaluated by observing the change of color with time. The results1 showed that the time for the color change was prolonged from 8 min to 78 min with the addition of THEIC–MR-phosphate. The color change for D-1, N1, N-2 and N-3 was 8, 26, 57 and 78 min, respectively. The time was extended nearly four times. In addition, the TGA tests showed that the thermal stability of the PVC materials was enhanced with the addition of THEIC–MR-phosphate. These results showed that the THEIC–MR-phosphate improved the heat resistance of PVC materials.
3) Painting and coating
1,3,5-Tris(2-hydroxyethyl)cyanuric acid (THEIC) contains a very stable six carbon nitrogen heterocyclic ring (triazine ring) structure, with excellent chemical and thermal stability. Paintings and coatings made with THEIC exhibit good mechanical properties and show improved heat resistance and weather resistance as well.
