What is Polyurethane?
Polyurethane is a general term for macromolecular compounds containing repeating amino ester groups on the main chain. Polyurethane, as an emerging organic polymer material, is known as the "fifth largest plastic" and is widely used in light industry, chemical industry, electronics, textiles, medical, construction, building materials, automobiles, national defense, aerospace, and aviation due to its excellent performance.

The Role of Polyurethane
Polyurethane can be used to manufacture plastics, rubber, fiber, rigid and soft foamed plastics, adhesives and coatings, with a wide range of applications.
- Polyurethane Foam Material
It is divided into rigid polyurethane foam, semi-rigid polyurethane foam and soft polyurethane foam. Rigid polyurethane foam is mainly used in building thermal insulation materials, thermal insulation materials such as plumbing facilities, cushions for daily necessities such as beds, sofas, refrigerators, air conditioners, and surfboards, as well as cushions and ceilings for means of transport such as cars, airplanes, railway vehicles, etc.
- Polyurethane Elastomer
Polyurethane elastomer has good tensile strength, tear strength, impact resistance, wear resistance, weather resistance, hydrolysis resistance, oil resistance, and so on. It is mainly used for the protection of coating materials such as hoses, washers, wheels, rollers, gears, pipes, insulators, soles and solid tires.
- Polyurethane Waterproof Material
Polyurethane waterproofing materials are very convenient to use. They can be mixed and applied on site and then cured at room temperature to obtain a waterproof layer with seamless, rubbery elasticity and good performance, and can be easily repaired after damage. They are generally used as floor covering materials, track and field track materials, racetracks, park ground materials, heat-insulating window frames, etc.
- Polyurethane Coating
Polyurethane coatings have strong adhesion, excellent wear resistance, water resistance, high and low temperature resistance, and chemical resistance. They are mainly used in furniture coatings, building materials coatings, industrial plant coatings, and industrial printing inks.
- Polyurethane Adhesive
By adjusting the ratio of isocyanate and polyol to adjust the properties of the cured product, the polyurethane can achieve high adhesion to the substrate, excellent water resistance, oil resistance and chemical resistance. It is mainly used in packaging, construction, lumber, automobiles, shoemaking and other fields.
- Biomedical Materials
Polyurethane has excellent biocompatibility and is therefore gradually widely used as a biomedical material. It can be used to manufacture artificial pacemakers, artificial blood vessels, artificial bones, artificial esophagus, artificial kidneys, artificial dialysis membranes, etc.
Characteristics of Polyurethane Products
The mechanical properties of polyurethane are very adjustable, and different mechanical properties can be obtained by controlling the ratio of crystalline hard segment to uncrystallized soft segment. Therefore, its products have excellent properties such as wear resistance, temperature resistance, sealing, sound insulation, good processability, degradability, and so on. The product features are as follows:
- Scratch resistance, no noise, long service life and low cost.
- The temperature resistance is -40°C ~ 120°C.
- Polyurethane products are pollution-free, non-toxic, and tasteless.
- Tolerance to various organic and inorganic acids, bases, amines, salts, and solvents.
- Polyurethane materials have excellent wear resistance and flexibility.
