In Vitro Activity
FT-IR spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction patterns revealed that the peptide fibers have parallel-type beta-sheet networks between the valylvaline units. Though dipeptide units have potential to take β-sheet, hexagonal, and random coil conformations, bulky isopropyl side chains of the valylvaline residues would enforce the β-sheet conformation rather than more closely-packed hexagonal lattice. Valylvaline residues form the parallel-type β-pleats-sheets at both sides of the bola-amphiphiles.
