Synthesis Of A Novel Phase-Change Material From Titanium Sulfate

Preparation of hierarchically porous TiO2 and composite PCMs Li, Chaoen, et al. Renewable Energy 145 (2020): 1465-1473.

A novel composite phase-change material (PCM) based on hierarchical porous TiO2 and n-octadecane was successfully synthesized using titanium sulfate as the starting material. The porous TiO2 was prepared by a soft template method, and n-octadecane was introduced under vacuum to prepare the composite PCM. Transmission electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction (XRD) results showed that the prepared support matrix was crystalline TiO, and the N adsorption/desorption isotherms showed that TiO2 had a hierarchical porous structure. For the composite PCM, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and XRD spectra showed that no chemical bonds were formed between n-octadecane and TiO2.
A hierarchical porous TiO2 was synthesized by a simple soft template method using alginate. I. Sodium alginate (NaAlg) powder (4.0 g) was dissolved in deionized water (200 mL) and the mixture was stirred continuously for 24 h to form a NaAlg solution; II. In another beaker, 8 g of titanium sulfate ((Ti(SO4 )2 )) was dissolved in 80 mL of water to form an aqueous solution, and 0.2 mL of dilute HCl (0.5 M) was added to adjust the pH value; III. The NaAlg solution was added dropwise into the titanium sulfate aqueous solution to form translucent beads, and the beads were cured in the (Ti(SO4 )2 ) solution at room temperature for 24 h; IV. After aging, the TiO2 beads were freeze-dried overnight and then dried at 40 ℃ for 5 h; V. The organic template was then burned out in a muffle furnace at 600 ℃ for 3 h.
