Application
The laboratory uses hexane mixed isomers to extract oil and grease contaminants from water and soil for analysis. As a non-polar solvent, it is used in chromatography. It plays an important role in the preparation of glue for footwear, leather goods and roofing. It is also used in reactions involving strong bases, such as the preparation of Grignard reagents. Also involved in the preparation of organolithium compound, butyllithium.
