Specification
Gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) were successfully prepared via a bottom-up ultrasonic spray pyrolysis (USP) process using gold (III) nitrate [Au(NO3)3] as a water-based precursor. During the USP process, NO3- and NO2- ions were formed in situ, which played an important role in stabilizing the AuNPs for up to 9 months without the use of any external surfactant.
Preparation of gold nitrate precursor and synthesis of AuNPs
· A total of 3 grams of Au(NO3)3 was combined with 300 mL of HNO3, and the resulting mixture was subjected to heating under reflux. Small portions of NH4OH (20 mL each, up to a total of 300 mL) were added while continuously stirring and cooling the yellow precursor. The solution was successfully neutralized and further diluted to achieve a final gold concentration of 2.5 g/L.
· For the synthesis of Au nanoparticles (AuNPs) using ultrasound-assisted processing (USP), an ultrasonic generator operating at a frequency of 1.6 MHz produced aerosol droplets from the precursor, which were then transported via quartz tubes using nitrogen gas as the carrier (at a flow rate of 1 L/min) to the evaporation zone maintained at 150 °C and the reaction zone held at 600 °C. Hydrogen gas (1 L/min) was introduced directly into the reaction zone, serving as a reducing agent. The resulting AuNPs were collected in deionized water in bottles, resulting in a pink-colored solution.
