A high-throughput screening method for the detection of multiple pesticide residues has been developed using supercritical fluid chromatography-high-resolution mass spectrometry and library-based automated detection.
A total of 444 chemicals covering a wide polarity range (log P ow from -4.2 to 7.7) and a wide molecular weight range (from 99.0 to 872.5) were analyzed simultaneously by high mass resolution (m /Δ m = 70000), high mass accuracy (<5 ppm) with positive/negative polarity switching and efficient separation by SFC.
Among them, three groups of structural isomers, butachlor and pretilachlor, iprodione and iprodione metabolites or propiconamide and benbucarb, were co-eluted.
However, the high resolution in SFC improved the process of separating a wide array of geometric isomers such as fenpyroximate, phenothrin, cypermethrin, cyfluthrin, permethrin, bitertanol, pyriminobac methyl, metominostrobin, diclobutrazol, ferimzone, triadimenol, pyrifenox, and bromoconazole, as well as structural isomers like aldicarb and butocarboxim, esfenvalerate and fenvalerate, bioresmethrin and resmethrin, phenmedipham and desmedipham, haloxyfop and oxyfluorfen, acetochlor and alachlor, trifluralin and benfluralin, phoxim and quinalphos, ethiofencarb and methiocarb, 2,3,5-trimethacarb, 3,4,5-trimethacarb, and isoprocarb, bendiocarb and dioxacarb, prometryn and terbutryn, and MPMC and XMC.
