Specification
7××× series aluminum alloy is a high-performance, lightweight alloy with a wide range of applications. However, 7075 aluminum alloy is prone to cracks during the selective laser melted (SLMed) manufacturing process. Erbium (Er) can modify aluminum alloys to prevent cracks during the manufacturing process.
Effect of adding Er on aluminum alloy
Samples were fabricated using 7075 aluminum alloy powder unmixed and mixed with 2 wt% Er element powder.
· After adding Er, the crack density decreases, but the porosity increases.
· Er additives exist in the form of unmelted particles and submicron Al3Er.
· The consistency between the aluminum matrix and Al3Er is conducive to grain refinement, thereby reducing cracks.
· Due to insufficient energy density, Er with a high melting point is not completely melted, resulting in higher porosity.
