Adsorption Treatment of Acid Blue 277 Dye by Chitosan Composite Materials

Haroun, Ahmed A., et al. Biointerface Res Appl Chem, 2021, 11, 11653-11665.

Acid blue 277 is widely used in the textile industry for dyeing wool, silk, and nylon fibers. Acid blue 277 is known for its vibrant blue color and good colorfastness properties. However, acid blue 277 is also a common contaminant in aquatic environments and requires the development of various methods for its removal, such as adsorbents. A chitosan/hyperbranched polyester (HBPE)/cobalt composite material can be prepared for the adsorption treatment of acid blue 277, and its adsorption capacity can reach 26.74 mg/g.
Preparation of chitosan/HBPE/cobalt composite material
· After homogenization with high-speed sonification, emulsion experiments were performed in tubes.
· In the presence of cobalt acetate (0.5 mg), chitosan (10 mg) was dissolved in the aqueous acidic medium.
· The solution was mixed with HBPE-16 at wt ratio 1:1 in an aqueous solution with a definite quantity of cetyl trimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB) in the ultrasonic process (3 min at 200 W).

Simultaneous Adsorption and Degradation Removal Strategy for Acid Blue 277

Modkovski T A, et al. Water, Air, & Soil Pollution, 2021, 232(12), 512.

A magnetic particle-immobilized Trametes laccase material (Lac-PMag) has been developed for acid blue 277 dye removal from both adsorption and degradation aspects simultaneously. The Lac-PMag material is prepared by loading iron oxide magnetic particles (PMag) with the white-rot fungi Trametes villosa.
Removal performance for acid blue 277
· The material's removal rate for acid blue 277 dye in aqueous solution can reach 99.0%.
· For acid blue 277 dye with an initial concentration of 300 mg/L, the removal amount of Lac-PMag can reach 52.72 ± 1.23 mg/g.
· In higher concentration dye solutions, the adsorption and biodegradation of acid blue 277 proceed simultaneously, improving the dye removal efficiency.
