Specification
Oral care compositions containing dye polymers have been developed for changing tooth color. Suitable colorants among these include anthraquinone-based polymer dyes having a poly(methyl vinyl ether)-maleic anhydride backbone and anthraquinone moieties linked by amide bonds. The dye polymer deposits onto tooth surfaces with relatively high efficiency, thereby increasing their efficiency.
· The dye moiety in the dye polymer is preferably selected from the following chromophore classes: anthraquinone, azo, triphenylmethane, azine, xanthene, indigo, methane and phthalocyanine.
· More preferred are the azo, anthraquinone and azine chromophore classes. The dye preferably contains an NH2 group, more preferably the NH2 group is bonded directly to the aromatic ring.
· Preferred dyes for such reactions include, but are not limited to, a series of dyes including Acid Violet 1, Acid Blue 230, Direct Violet 99, Direct Blue 33, Disperse Blue 28 and Basic Blue 47.
