ZnO-Mediated Photocatalytic Decolorization of Acid Black 2 Dye

Acid black 2, also known as Nigrosine, is an aniline derivative. Photocatalytic decolorization of acid black 2 can be achieved using ZnO nanoparticle suspension as a photocatalyst under 250 watts of UV-A illumination. At 25 minutes and 288.15K, the optimal removal efficiency (99.014%) of acid black 2 dye can be achieved under ZnO catalysis.
Possible mechanism of acid black 2 decolorization
· When using ZnO as a photocatalyst, hydroxyl radicals act as the driving force to initiate photoreactions in the presence of photocatalysts. The progress of the photoreaction for acid black 2 decolorization is summarized as shown in the figure.
· The photodecolorization reaction of acid black 2 dye in ZnO suspension follows pseudo-first-order kinetics.
