Acid Black 41 as a Preferred Dye Candidate for Pigments in Water-Based Inks

Akira Mizutani, et al. US 20060275606A1, 2006.

A pigment for water-based inks has been developed that has excellent anti-clogging reliability and pigment anti-settling stability while providing a high level of hiding power. This water-based ink pigment contains core particles composed of a material with a lower specific gravity than titanium oxide. The surface of the core particles is covered with a titanium oxide layer, and the particle size of the pigment is 0.05 to 5 μm. In this pigment system, acid black 41 can be used as one of the further preferred examples of acid dyes and azo dyes.
Method for producing pigments for water-based inks
· Provides aqueous emulsions containing core particles.
· The aqueous emulsion is added to the organic solvent in which the titanium alkoxide is dissolved.
· Titanium oxide is precipitated on the surface of the core particles through hydrolysis of the titanium alkoxide.
· Light-colored inks can be prepared by adding appropriate amounts of pigments and/or dyes.
