This work used municipal sewage sludge and hot-alkali treated sludge as raw materials to prepare sludge biochar (SBC) and hot-alkali treated sludge biochar (TSBC) for the adsorption study of cationic red X-GRL and cationic yellow X-6G in solution. The results showed that the adsorption of cationic dyes on biochar conformed to the pseudo-second-order kinetic model, and the equilibrium data fitted the Freundlich isotherm model well.
Adsorption experiment of cationic dyes on biochars
· The impact of bio-char dosage was evaluated using 20 mL of cationic red X-GRL and cationic yellow X-6G solutions at concentrations of 40 mg/L each. Various amounts of SBC (ranging from 0.02 g to 0.2 g) and TSBC (ranging from 0.01 g to 0.1 g) were mixed with the dye solutions and agitated at 25°C for 24 hours. The remaining dye concentrations in the solutions were then determined, and the efficiency of dye removal as well as the amount adsorbed for both types of dye were calculated.
· Subsequently, a fixed quantity of SBC and TSBC were introduced to 20 mL of the cationic red X-GRL and cationic yellow X-6G solutions, respectively, at a concentration of 40 mg/L. The bio-char and dye mixtures were stirred at 25°C for varying durations. Following this, the concentrations of remaining dyes in the solutions were measured, and the amount of dye adsorbed for the two types was calculated.
