Description
SP-187, also known as N-9-DNJ and UV-4B, is an alpha-Glucosidase inhibitor potentially for the treatment of dengue fever and influenza infection. Proline-producing strains of Serratia marcescens were more osmotolerant than wild-type strains. Growth inhibition by proline analogs was significantly enhanced by increasing the osmotic stress of the medium.

In Vitro Activity
UV-4B effectively inhibited replication of the wild type SARS-CoV-2 strain in ACE2-A549 cells, yielding an EC50 value of 2.69
μM (Table 1).

In Vivo Activity
For mice treated with UV-4B at 75, 100, or 150 mg/kg/dose, significant weight loss protection extended to Day 14 post-virus exposure (p < 0.05 to p < 0.0001). This study showed that all doses of UV-4B were effective in significantly ameliorating weight loss for the entire experiment, in prolonging mean time to death, and in promoting survival.
