Analysis Of N-Benzyl Hexadecanamide In Maca From Different Origins

Bioactive ingredients contents (mg/g DM) in selected maca samples of different cultivation areas and colour types. Chen, Longfei, Jieying Li, and Liuping Fan. Journal of Food Quality 2017 (2017).

The proximate components (water, lipids, proteins, dietary fiber, amino acids and minerals), secondary metabolites (alkaloids, N-benzyl hexadecanamide and benzyl glucosinolates) and color types of maca samples from different origins were analyzed and compared, which can provide references for the selection of planting areas, artificial breeding, and targeted development of functional products based on its characteristics through different nutrition and treatment.
Since this unique alkaloid can only be found in maca, macaamide is reported to have the effect of improving sexual desire and fertility. N-benzyl hexadecanamide was determined, and it had the highest glucosinolate content. The content of N-benzyl hexadecanamide varied slightly, ranging from 0.095 to 0.194 mg/g DM. N -Benzylhexadecanoic acid amide was significantly more abundant in Xiaopingba-Y ( mg/g DM), Yongsheng-Y ( mg/g DM), Yulong-Y ( mg/g DM), and Pamir-Y ( mg/g DM) than in Peru-Y ( mg/g DM).
