Specification
Skin exposed to friction, sweating, and close contact with textiles is susceptible to contact allergy and allergic contact dermatitis (ACD) from textile allergens. Acid red 118 may be one of the sources of textile dye allergens. There are very few studies that have evaluated the allergenic potential of the non-dispersed azo dye acid red 118 through patch testing.
· Patch testing was performed on 1814 patients attending a patch testing clinic, and 16 (0.88%) reacted to the newly added dyes: 8 to direct orange, 5 to acid yellow, 2 to acid red, 1 to acid red 118.
· According to a recent patch test of textile dyes, only 3 (1.4%) patients showed a weak positive reaction to the acid red 118 allergen.
