The removal effect of acid blue 62 (AB 62) dye by various cerium reagents as oxidants was studied, including CeF4, (NH4)2Ce(NO3)6, Ce(SO4)2, CeCl3, and Ce(CH3COO)3. Cerium fluoride (CeF4) decolorizes acid blue 62 dye and COD (chemical oxygen demand) have the highest removal rates, 99.9% and 95% respectively. The degradation mechanism was involved in oxidation of AB 62 dye and its de-coloration in the aqueous solution.
De-coloration experiments of acid blue 62
· The laboratory tests were performed by using the standard, APHA-AWWA procedure. The removal of AB62 dye by the direct chemical oxidation process in aqueous medium depends on various parameters such as the amount of oxidizer, pH and oxidation time.
· In a typical experiment, 50 mL of AB62 dye solution (at pH=3) in the concentration of 50 mg/L was transferred into a 100 mL beaker.
· Then, 5 mg of CeF4 (0.1 g/L) was added to the solution and content was mixed for 15 min at 160 rpm.
· After equilibrium the supernatant was taken out every 0.5 min and then the remaining was filtered to obtain a clear liquid which was adjusted to the pH of 7.0, and the UV-vis measurements were performed on the liquid sample to monitor the maximum wave length.
Adsorption is one of the most cost-effective dye removal technologies. Acid blue 62 dye can be removed by adsorption by SBA-15/PAMAM nano-adsorbent, which is prepared by the reaction of SBA-15-Cl (chlorine group) and PAMAM (amide group). The optimal acid blue 62 dye removal conditions were an initial pH of 2, an adsorbent dosage of 0.03g SBA-15/PAMAM, a dye concentration of 40mg/L, a contact time of 60 minutes, and a temperature of 25°C.
Adsorption procedure of acid blue 62
· An aqueous dye solution with a concentration of 1000 ppm was provided by mixing 1gram of AB62 with distilled water.
· The adsorption procedures were carried out by the addition of adsorbent into dye solutions (100 ml) of different initial concentrations (20-100 ppm) at different pH (2-12) for various time (15-120 min) and different temperatures (25-45 °C).
· Among the examination, specimens were centrifuged at 4000 rpm for 20 min and then dye removal was analyzed by applying a UV-Vis spectrophotometer.
The electrochemical degradation of the anthraquinone dye acid blue 62 (AB 62) in a filter press reactor on Ti/Pt/β-PbO2 anode was studied using response surface methodology (RSM) and variables: current density, pH, [NaCl] and temperature. The obtained results indicate that different conditions are needed for color and COD removals, which depend mainly on the solution pH and temperature during the electrolysis.
Electrochemical degradation of the AB 62 dye
· The electrochemical experiments were carried out in a one-compartment filter-press reactor composed of the Ti-Pt/bPbO2 anode (exposed area: 3.1×1.9 cm, each face) and two nickel plates as cathodes.
· A central composite design (CCD) coupled with RSM was used in the AB 62 dye electrochemical degradation. The variables current density (j), pH, NaCl concentration ([NaCl]), and temperature (h) were investigated at five different levels (-2, -1, 0, 1, 2); Table 1 shows the used ranges and levels for these variables.
· All the experiments were carried out randomly using 0.4 L of a 0.1 mol/L Na2SO4 aqueous solution containing a fixed concentration (100 mg/L) of the AB 62 dye, at a flow rate of 360 L/h (0.5 m/s).
