The Biosorption Kinetics and Equilibrium of Acid Blue 225 by Azolla Filiculoides

Balarak D, et al. American Chemical Science Journal, 2016, 12(2), 1-9.

The potential of Azolla biomass as an adsorbent for biosorption of acid blue 225 (AB 225) in aqueous solution was evaluated using acid blue 225 as the target dye. The results showed that a pH value of 3 was beneficial to the biosorption of dyes. The dye adsorption efficiency increases with increasing adsorbent dosage and contact time. In addition, the adsorption of Azolla filiculoides to acid blue 225 is consistent with the Langmuir isotherm.
Adsorption experiments for acid blue 225
· All experiments were carried out with biosorbent samples (1 g/L) at 30℃ in 50 mL beakers in a magnetic stirrer operating at 200 rpm.
· The concentrations of dyes in solution were estimated quantitatively using the linear regression equations obtained by plotting a calibration curve for dye over a range of concentrations.
· The dye adsorption capacities of biosorbent were determined at a certain time intervals (10-180 min) and at various biosorbent dosages (1-10 g/L).
· The effect of pH on biosorption efficiency was studied by adjusting dye solutions (25 mg/L) with different pH values (3-12) and agitated with 5 g/L of biosorbent for 90min.
